The Four Pillars of Adventure Cycle Experience
Adventure Cycle Experience was founded on four basic pillars - Adventure, Environmental Sustainability, Healthy Living, and 'Do Some Good'. These four pillars are the foundation of our business, and are part of everything that we do.
It's through seeking adventure and new experiences that we are able to grow and learn. New experiences open our eyes to different ways of seeing the world, and help us to empathize with others. Adventure keeps us young, no matter what our age.
We're stewards here, and have a responsibility to our earth to take care of it. We believe that a bicycle is an excellent way to travel - there are no emissions, and very little impact on the environment. While we do supply a support vehicle, we balance this through the purchase of carbon offsets from Toronto-based zerofootprint. We aim to minimize our carbon footprint wherever possible; we stay at locally run businesses, and aim to cook with locally grown groceries. In our office, we recycle everything possible, and minimize paper records, instead maintaining digital records to minimize our environmental impact.
It's not always easy to stay healthy - we have so many demands placed on us that sometimes our body takes a back seat in our priorities. But we believe it's important to stay active and fit. Travelling by bicycle is an excellent way to keep our bodies active and our minds sharp. We serve healthy, filling and nutritious meals, realizing that when travelling by bicycle your meals are your only source of fuel.
Do Some Good
Our fourth pillar is about helping others. Sure, we take care of ourselves through adventure and healthy living, and our planet through reducing our environmental impact, but to complete this holistic approach, we offer customers the chance to help others as well. Here in Canada we are blessed with nearly endless possibilities, however not everybody in the world has those chances. To help others, we are closely partnered with the non-profit organization Bicycles for Humanity. Bicycles for Humanity organizes donations of used and unwanted bicycles, and fills a shipping container with these bikes, along with spare parts and tools. These shipping containers, (once filled they are considered "Bicycle Empowerment Centres") are shipped to partner organizations in Africa, where the bikes are used in a number of fantastic ways, empowering disadvantaged people by improving transportation and access to food and water, employment, health care, education, and social opportunities. One hundred dollars from each tour fee is donated to Bicycle for Humanity, which every cyclist is given a chance to fundraise, discounting the cost of each tour by $100. It’s our way of saying thanks for your help. In addition, a part of all profits from Adventure Cycle Experience goes to Bicycle for Humanity. For the summer of 2012, all donations to Bicycles for Humanity NB will be sent to the local chapter closest to where each tour participant is from. This means that you'll be making a difference for your local chapter by cycling with us this summer. It lets all of us 'do some good'.
